DESKS FOR SUCCESS

I’m really excited by the Desks for Success project that Steve MacIntyre has started here in Rochester. He borrowed (with permission) a simple design for a child’s desk, (It’s not Fine Woodworking, but it’s not shabby) and has his daughter helping him find kids who need a desk at home. He shared this project at the Show and Tell meeting in January and has asked RWS to get behind it and help it expand. As Steve says, “...this goes well beyond Covid...we have a long way to go before we're consistently setting our youth up for success. These desks won't solve all the problems with our school systems... However, maybe we can help one student or one family at a time to improve their learning success.”

My hope is that many RWS members can pitch in with a coordinated effort across RWS so we can make the most impact. But we still have to work that out with Steve. This is brand-new, so other than the idea that we’re going to use a Local Workshop time slot soon to promote this, there are not yet any details to share about how we’ll coordinate.

On the other hand, Steve has done a very nice job documenting the details of how he’s been able get started in three documents located at this link:  Desk plans

Have a look. I think this is just AWESOME!

Looking forward to working together with you on this.
